What is a renovascular condition?

The renal arteries originate at the heart and carry nutrient and oxygen rich blood to the kidneys. If the renal arteries become blocked, the kidneys do not receive enough blood or oxygen, several conditions can occur.

What are symptoms of this disease?

There are typically no symptoms for this disease, however, very high blood pressure or ongoing kidney damage may occur. Kidney damage may get to the point where Dialysis is needed.

What are the causes of renovascular conditions?

Your risk increases as you age and if you smoke, have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or high triglycerides.

How is this disease treated?

A renal vascular condition could lead to Peripheral Arterial Disease. An angiogram may be needed to help blood flow more freely to the kidney.
